In Wellington in the first T20 match of the series for the Women’s cricket came to a disappointing loss for Team India despite Smriti Mandhana having scored a new record for one of the fastest 50s in the game.

Mandhana scored 58 runs in all before being dismissed but she reached the 50 mark just of 24 deliveries at the Westpac Stadium. After electing to field first, India managed to hold New Zealand to a score of 159 runs for 4 despite opener Sophie Devine’s riveting 62 runs of 48 balls.

This seemed a manageable total for India as they were able to cruise to a score of 101 for 1 wicket thanks to a solid partnership by Mandhana and Jemiamah Rodrigues. However in 5 overs it became 117 for 6 thanks to an amazing performance by seamer Lea Tahuhu with three wickets in her four overs.

The next match will be on the 8th at Auckland.
