Google has launched a new Password Checkup tool, which is a Chrome extension to prevent data theft. The extension aims to keep users data secure beyond Google’s own sites and applications. This security measure apparently reduces the risk of an account getting hacked by ten.
The new Chrome extension will be a part of the browser and help protect user’s accounts from third-party data breaches. The extension will ensure that not even Google can learn users account details.
The Password Checkup tool works by detecting whether usernames and passwords of users are unsafe for use online and triggering an automatic warning suggesting that users change their passwords in such a case.
The extension is the first version and will be further improved in the next few months. Other similar features are Mozilla’s HIBP, PassProtect, etc.
