The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that is it planning to ensure that Consumers now will not need to change their Set Up Boxes (STBs) when they are planning to change from DTH providers.
This announcement is following the changes that the TRAI had made last year regarding the pricing of the DTH operators and introducing new Mandates. One topic which the TRAI had highlighted numerous times in this regard was how subscribers were forced to use STBs which were exclusive for a specific provider.
However the chairman of the TRAI has announced that changes should take place soon with Set Up Boxes that should be standardized where if a different DTH provider is opted the consumer would simply need to install a software specific to that provider. However there are concerns from Distribution Platform Operators that this will increase the threat of piracy.
