On Thursday, the Union cabinet gave its approval for the privatization of the management of six airports, Jaipur and Ahmedabad airports included.
Public-private partnership in airport management has helped garner substantial revenue for the government in other Indian cities. The government’s experience managing the airports in five cities, namely, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kochi through private participation has yielded good results financially and has led it to adopt the same method in six other airports in the country.
The Union cabinet has given… “in-principle approval for leasing out six airports of AAI (Airports Authority of India) viz. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru for operation, management and development under public-private partnership (PPP) through (the) Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee,” law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
