Popular television actress Shilpa Shinde joined the Congress party in a function held in Mumbai on the 5th of February. Shinde had made her debut in television in 1999 and her most popular role was in the soap opera series known as Bhabhi.
In the function to welcome her, the party’s Maharashtra unit chief Sanjay Nirupam and Party Leader Charan Singh Sapra were present.
In the last Lok Sabha election in 2014 the Congress party had won only 2 of the 48 constituencies in Maharashtra. It is speculated that the Party will contest in the upcoming election with an alliance with Sharad Pawar’s NCP.
In a statement released by NCP leader Praful Patel, he said that there was a possibility of the NCP and Congress contesting 20 seats of the 48 in the Lock Sabha in Maharashtra with the remaining 8 to be allotted to other allies.
