17 Killed as Massive Fire Breaks Out at Hotel in Delhi's Karol Bagh

A massive fire broke out at Hotel Arpit Palace in  Karol Bagh, Delhi on Tuesday, killing 17 people. While most of the deaths were due to suffocation, a woman and a child who jumped out of a window to escape the flames are also among the deceased.

According to the fire services department, 35 people were injured and have been taken to nearby hospitals. Reports say there were sixty people in the hotel when the fire broke out.

The Delhi Fire services department received a call about the fire around 4:30 am, after which twenty fire tenders were rushed to the hotel. The fire is reported to have started from the fourth floor and spread till the second floor. Smoke could be seen emanating from the hotel till  7 am even after the fire was extinguished.

The likely cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit, but the Delhi government has ordered a probe to look into the incident.
